The Christ’s Pieces pictures were two years in taking – dropped and broke my camera  the first year , so had to save up for a new one, which was probably for the best as I at last went digital. The second year became a project that helped keep me focused against a background of grim hospital appointments – I wasn’t sure if i would ever see it completed.

But the pictures have been a great tool – to use in my visits to schools, but also to get wider PR for parks. The local paper ran a centre page spread about them, as did the local listings mag. And the Parks Department eventually picked up on them and had had a series of enlarged prints block mounted as part of their travelling exhibition promoting local parks. So it was worth the effort. Though personally I’m just happy having them up on the computer screen to look at now and then.

Allan Brigham, Cambridge.

Allan Brigham is a local historian and a Blue Badge Guide in Cambridge. He has been a roadsweeper for ever and we share a lot of passions, including parks. He is presently recovering from a long and life-threatening illness and has just been awarded an honourary degree by Cambridge University for services to Cambridge local history and tourism.

He has kindly agreed that I can share his email to me about how and why he came to spend two years photographing Christ’s Pieces in Cambridge.
