Lenton Festival 2009 – the best yet!
Lenton Festival 2009 – the best yet!
The bellringers from Holy Trinity Church performed on hand bells during the day. Amazingly, they do not have enough volunteers.
I spent time going round with Lilian Greenwood, who many of us hope will replace our much loved Alan Simpson as our next MP, as she is the person chosen by Nottingham South Labour Party to be its new prospective parliamentary candidate.
I took this picture of her with two Lenton Centre stalwarts and community activists, Mairi Yuill (centre) and Jenny Hill (right).
We also stopped at the Plant Swap barrow, where I caught Lilian with Zahoor Mir (left), our excellent and long serving Labour Party city councillor, who has represented Dunkirk and Lenton ward for many years, talking with the plant lady.
I know that Lilian enjoyed the day and the chance to talk with lots of Lenton folk about lots of things.
Steve Zaleski, the Editor of the Lenton Times, our local history magazine, sets off to sell copies to Festival visitors at the bargain price of 50p!
If didn’t know, you might think this was a country village fete, as people soaked up the sun, listened to the music and enjoyed good food in the company of friends and neighbours. This why so many of love Lenton and never want to leave.
Local residents Richard and Patsy enjoy the day. Richard also helped out on the Crocus Café stall. Patsy used to the day to sell bits and pieces.
The Pedal stand seemed very popular during the day, with friendly and helpful volunteers on hand to answer questions.
Fiona (left) was one of three Forum workers wired up for sound with hi-tech walkie-talkies to keep the Festival running smoothly. I managed to catch her with her friend Caroline, who lives in Radford and I know as well.
At The Lenton Centre marquee you could ride on this improvised exercise bicycle and make a smoothie at the same time.
I couldn’t resist this picture of Lilian with Betty, one of my favourite Lenton residents.
Lilian has a great blog, where you can learn more about her views and activities.
